The black tea production came to India around 1823 in the Assam region of India. This native variety was much better suited to the production of the hearty, bold black teas that were in high demand. In 1835, the English started planting tea gardens in Darjeeling, Assam. Since India was a British colony, different varieties of black teas quickly became popular exports to England.

Larger-leafed varietal of the tea plant that is typically used to produce black tea which is grown in warm, moist climates and is prolific in sub-tropical forests. When people talk generally of tea in Western culture, they’re often referring to black tea. Usually black tea has the caffeine content (14 to 61 mg) and it was decided by various factors on plantation. 

The Orthodox processing is predominantly for the estate plantation and it has more selectively processed to achieve the high quality.It is totally different from the CTC varieties ,whereby different estate leaves are utilised.
